HEATHER JACOBSON

Heather Jacobson is Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas at Arlington where she serves as Interim Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and teaches courses on families, reproduction, and qualitative research methods. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Brandeis University.

Her research centers primarily on various routes to family formation in the contemporary United States. She is the author of Labor of Love: Gestational Surrogacy and the Work of Making Babies (Rutgers University Press, 2016) and Culture Keeping: White Mothers, International Adoption, and the Negotiation of Family Difference (Vanderbilt University Press, 2008). Her work has been featured on the NPR radio programs Think and Embodied, The Boston Globe, Contexts, Le Monde, Brain Child Magazine, Inquiry Magazine, D Magazine, CBC, New York Daily News, The Dallas Morning News, Childhood, Journal of Family Issues, Journal of Law and Biosciences, Reproductive Biomedicine & Society Online, BioSocieties, Current Sociology, Medical Anthropology Quarterly, Adoption & Culture, and the radio program Creating a Family: Talk about Adoption and Infertility.
